Seventeen newcomers in futsal officiating have been introduced to Fiji Football Association’s comprehensive referee training program at a course at Fiji FA Headquarters in Vatuwaqa in the weekend
The two- day course was to develop futsal referees in the country as Fiji FA commits in developing futsal in Fiji.
Fiji FA/OFC futsal referees instructor Jainud Dean and OFC referee Amitesh Bihari were on hand to give advice to the referees.
Dean said the main objective for the course was to develop more futsal referees.
“The main objective is to develop more cadet referees for futsal because the game is growing up and we have shortage of futsal referees, “said Dean
“This course is really going to boost the morale for the participants from around the country and will add numbers to the futsal refereeing.”
He said some participants were new but had passion for the game of futsal.
“We have some cadet referees and some new faces in the course who were all eager to take on the challenge of refereeing futsal,”
They undertook a test on futsal’s laws, and were given insights into areas such as consistent application of the laws, visual ability, and movement, positioning and signalling.”
Dean said fitness was a key element at the two-day course, given that futsal referees require attributes such as speed to keep up with play, and agility to be able to change direction.
