Fiji Football Moves Up In Ranking

The Vodafone Fiji national Football side is now ranked 168 in the World FIFA rankings released yesterday.
Fiji was on 177 at the last rankings in September.
Fiji FA chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said this was a big achievement for Fiji football, we are slowly moving towards our target to be ranked 2nd in OFC by 2020.
“Fiji FA is committed to ensure that we expose our players to higher ranked opposition in Asia. These are costly but we are committed together with also trying to promote the women’s football. We will also be exposing our youths to international competition as we believe these youths will adopt to our new philosophy of football, “Yusuf said.
“We are slowly moving and I think we will achieve our targets in years to come.”
Yusuf said there was also more quality international friendlies set up for our national team and that would also be an advantage.
“We have played a total of 13 internationals this year winning 4, drawing 5 and losing 4. This is the highest number of internationals Fiji ever played in its history. We have scored 22 goals and 13 scord against us, if we take out the Tuvalu match then we still scored 14 goals and 13 against”
Yusuf said there was lots of requirements to play an international friendly but they had been doing all to get the matches arranged in the FIFA window.
“The improvement in ranking, is due to the number of international games Fiji has played this year, with the latest being against Estonia.
