Blues start with a bang
Lautoka Football team made a perfect start to its Vodafone Premier League 2019 campaign after a convincing 6-0 win over Tavua at Churchill Park in Lautoka last Sunday.
Starting off with a young squad, Tavua managed put pressure on the Lautoka defense all throughout the first half while Lautoka seemed unsettled.
Tavua’s Vilive Naulalevu had the best chance to score in the 22nd minute when he received a grounded cross from Marika Rawasoi from the left edge of the 18-yard box and he had only the goalkeeper Benaminio Mateinaqara to beat.
Naulalevu’s feeble attempt was bravely tapped away by goalkeeper Mateinaqara. Both teams were locked 0-0 at the breather.
Samuela Drudru opened the floodgates in the 54th minute before a defensive blunder saw Sairusi Nalaubu punishing them with the second goal.
Kolinio Sivoki score the third via penalty kick before Drudru got his second for the afternoon.
Dave Radrigai added his name with the fifth goal before Drudru found his hat-trick in the 92nd minute to put the final nail into the Tavua coffin.
Lautoka coach Kamal Swamy agreed they were not settled in the first half.
“We did not settle in the first half and with the young Tavua team, they kept on coming.
“So in the second half, we kept possession, we had to be patience, that’s what we talked about during the half time break and we managed to score in the second half,” Swamy said.
He said he needs to rectify on few areas before taking field against Suva this Sunday.
“We have to prepare for Suva and at the same time focus on the O’League too.
“Our priority is the Champions League and in between we have a game against Suva.”
