Battle On To Decide Champions of Fijian football

The 2018 Pillay Garments Champions versus Champion Series was launched at the Fiji FA Headquarters in Vatuwaqa today.
2017 Vodafone Premier League winners Lautoka and 2016 Courts Inter District Champions Labasa will battle it out to decide who reigns as champions of Fijian football.

Sponsors, Pillay Garments have contributed $25,000 towards this year’s series, an increase of $3000 from last year.

Pillay Garments Managing Director, Narendra Pillay wished both the teams the best of luck.

“I would like to thank the Fiji Football Association for once again partnering with my company. I have been getting a lot of mileage from this series and am looking forward to the same in the coming years. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top but I wish both the teams all the best. Both Lautoka and Labasa are good teams and may the best team win.”

Fiji FA Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed Yusuf said this is a great way to start the year.

“Lautoka and Labasa have very good players and fans of both teams can expect a cracker of a match. The first match is in Labasa and the fans in the north will be waiting anxiously to watch their team play CVC. Lautoka have proven to be one of the top teams lately but nothing can be taken away from Labasa.”

Yusuf adds that fans should take advantage of the low ticket prices.

“It’s $5 flat for adults. It is not to increase ticket sales but we want fans to come out in big numbers and fill the stands so that the teams are motivated. A huge crowd turnout is something which makes the atmosphere livelier and that is what we want.”

Both teams have been given preparation grants of $4000 each while the winner of the two-legged series walks away with $5000 as the runner-up settles for $2500.

The first leg will be hosted by Labasa at Subrail Park at 1pm this Saturday while the return leg will be played at Lautoka’s Churchill Park at 7pm next Friday.
