Dayal’s Sawmillers Ba FC strengthened its grip on the Extra Premier League summit with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Lautoka, while Stratum Construction Rewa FC was held to a draw as Round 15 delivered another thrilling weekend of football.
Ba extended its lead at the top of the standings to 33 points after a commanding display.
The Men in Black now hold a one-point advantage over Extra Supermarket Labasa FC and a four-point cushion over third-placed Rewa.
Labasa kept pace with the league leaders thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Prithvi Navua FC.
The Babasiga Lions moved to 32 points, ensuring the title race remains finely balanced heading into Round 16.
Stratum Construction Rewa FC, however, lost ground in the championship race after being held to a 1-1 draw by Nadi FC. The Delta Tigers remain third on 29 points, four points behind Ba.
The biggest upset of the round came when Tailevu Naitasiri FC claimed back-to-back victories with a spirited 3-2 win over Global Care Suva FC. It was another confidence-boosting performance for the side, while Suva remained sixth on the table.
Meanwhile, Coastal Rental Cars/MMM Brothers Nadroga FC returned to winning ways with a valuable 1-0 victory over fourth-placed Nasinu FC, keeping alive its hopes of climbing the standings.
Attention now turns to Round 16, which gets underway on Saturday, August 1, with a blockbuster top-of-the-table clash between Extra Supermarket Labasa FC and Dayal’s Sawmillers Ba FC.
The remaining fixtures on Sunday, August 2, will see Lautoka FC take on Coastal Rental Cars/MMM Brothers Nadroga FC, Nasinu FC face Tagimoucia Nadi FC, Tailevu Naitasiri FC meet Prithvi Navua FC, and Stratum Construction Rewa FC host Global Care Suva FC.
