Fiji Football Association Technical Director Saiyad Ali says the U-20 squad will take time off to wrap up their preparations for the 2011 Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) U-20 playoffs which will be held in New Zealand next month.#Ali adds that the U-23 squad will use the remainder of the National League season to build up for the 2012 Olympic Games playoffs. #He says three zonal U-23 squads will be named in the Southern, Western and Northern zones and play only league matches which will be scheduled in their zones.#“Three U-23 squads will be selected and each squad will have a different coach. What will happen is that if the U-23 side is scheduled to play in the southern division against Navua , Suva or Rewa then the southern U-23 side will play. If match is scheduled in Vanua Levu against Labasa or Savusavu then the Northern U-23 side will play and this will be likewise for the Western team.#“With this new initiative three different squads will be exposed and it will give us a wide base of players to select from when finalising the National U-23 side for the Olympic playoffs,” Ali said. #The Fiji FA Technical Director says the same procedure will be followed selecting the national sides in future.#“We will now follow this same zonal procedure for the future U-17 and U-20 teams. This will be an easy for us to identify talent which can don the national jumper,” Ali said. #The Southern zone U-23 squad is scheduled for a match next weekend.
