Football can be a career, teachers told

Speaking during the Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Championship launch and pool draws Fiji FA vice-president, Yogeshwar Singh said the secondary school’s football championship plays a vital role in development of players in the country.#“We understand the players come through secondary schools and are scouted either by district or national coaches,” he said.#Singh said Fiji FA is very much committed to the development of football and that is why they have contributed $25,000 from the sponsorship of Vodafone Fiji to FSSFA.#“The sponsorship is coming from Fiji FA and I must thank Vodafone Fiji for sponsoring us and making us help the Fiji Secondary Schools Association.#“Secondary school football is yet another division of football which plays a vital role in player development, most of the players in the grade play officially for the first time before they make their way into youth or senior grade of football.“#He said over the years, secondary school football has played a vital role in terms of player development and the development of football in the country as a whole.#“A lot of star footballers have emerged from participating in the secondary school football, for example our own hero Roy Krishna who was scouted by the Fiji Football officials in the secondary schools IDC competition.”#Singh added training and exposure of young players is important to foster growth of future stars and for football as a whole. #“So my message to the teachers is to go back and speak to your children so that they can put their mind. We at Fiji football are doing everything possible to develop football in the country. We have U17 competition fully financed by Fiji Football what else in development you want” #Fiji Secondary School Football Association president Aminesh Ram is urging people to support development programmes set-up by Fiji FA. #The 2016 Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Football Championship will be held from August 11-14 at the Fiji FA Academy grounds and Xavier College. #
