Grant to assist Fiji U17 women’s team

This was confirmed by the Commission chairman, Peter Mazey.#“As you may have noticed this year we have distributed large amount of grants to youth teams and we are pleased to assist the national under-17 women football team in their participation,” he said.#“It’s good that we are developing women in all aspects now and we are hoping that the women football will do well like our women’s 7s team.”#Mazey said the challenge now is to improve our ranking in football and the way to do that is through the U17 and U19.#“We know to improve any sport is to start from the development ages and we are happy to assist the youth teams.”#Fiji FA CEO Bob Kumar said the funding would assist In their preparation and also participation in the OFC playoffs.#“The girls are currently in camp in Ba preparing for the competition which will be held in Cook Islands early January.#“The grant will assist us in accommodation, preparation and airfares as you know going to the Cook Islands we need to get New Zealand visa, which will cost us a lot.”#Kumar added that FIFA has made it compulsory this year for all member association to field the U17 boys and girls teams in the play offs.#Fiji is in Pool B with Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and Cook Islands. The team leave Fiji on January 13, 2016.#
