The Vodafone National Women’s senior team is currently in camp under the guidance of coach Marika Rodu.
Rodu said the main purpose for camp was to prepare the team for the upcoming FIFA International Friendlies and South Pacific Games.“The purpose for the camp is to prepare the team for the June window, there would be tri-nations matches between Vanuatu and Singapore which will be hosted by Vanuatu and at the same time we are preparing for South Pacific Games in July, “said Rodu.
Rodu said there were twenty three players selected to be in camp but unfortunately we could not get all of them at the moment.
“At the moment we have only eighteen players in camp as some of our players are down with flu and we expect them to arrive in camp this week.”
“There are some new ones and it is challenge for those who will be joining the camp this week to pick up and be empower with the rest of the girls.”
Rodu said the good thing was that they had sufficient time to prepare the team.
“The new girls in the team are doing their best to be part of this team and we will spent time with them and make sure that they understand the philosophy we want put across and like I said time is on our side and we want to make a very good team for South Pacific Games, “said Rodu.
The former Rewa FC coach has recruited some of the national u19 players in the squad.
“The cycle continues and they are the next generation of national women’s team players so the idea is to get these young girls to experience the training environment and be with the team and also when their time will come hold the responsibility and share the knowledge with the younger players in future, “said Rodu
Rodu said there was another reason why they had included some youth players.
“After the South Pacific Games there will be OFC U19 Championship and that is another reason we have included some U19 girls in the squad,”
