Women set for battle

The much awaiting Vodafone Women’s Senior League 2017 playoff has been rescheduled to be played this weekend at Fiji FA Headquarters, Suva.
Northern Champions Labasa, Southern pool leaders Tailevu Naitasiri and Western winners Ba will feature in a three day competition.

Fiji FA competitions manager Amitesh Pal said Ba, Labasa and Tailevu Naitasiri Women’s senior teams have qualified from their respective zones for the playoffs.

“Though Labasa Women’s team has a match pending but they have the maximum points required to win the competition in North,” Pal said.
Pal said competition would be played between the teams on a single round league format.

“On Friday May 4 at 3pm defending champions Ba will take on first time qualifiers Tailevu Naitasiri and on Saturday May 6 they will play Labasa at 3pm.

“Labasa and Tailevu Naitasiri will play in the final match on Sunday May 7 at 3pm,” he said.

Pal confirmed that the team finishing with the highest points after the completion of the matches wins the Vodafone Women’s Senior League 2017.

“The winner of the play off walks away with $1500 plus a trophy while the runner-up gets $750 and third place receives $500,”Pal said.
Meanwhile Tailevu Naitasiri coach Laisiani Matayele says they are confident of winning their first ever Women’s Senior League title.

“We are preparing well for this tourney and I am confident that my girls will do wonders for the district,”

The 2017 Fiji FA Coach of the Year said they had not let any stone unturned for the play-off.

“We have a very young squad and I know my girls can do the job,” she said.
