Patel joins FIFA Council

Fiji Football Association proud to announce the election of its president Rajesh Patel as the member of FIFA Council which was held today at the OFC Extraordinary Congress at the Sky City Grand Hotel in Auckland, New Zealand .
Fiji FA chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said this was a proud moment for Fiji FA and Mr Patel.
“It is the main decision-making body of the organization in the intervals of FIFA Congress. Its members are elected by the FIFA Congress. The council is a non-executive, supervisory and strategic body that sets the vision for FIFA and global football, “said Yusuf.
“FIFA Council – The FIFA Council (formerly the FIFA Executive Committee) is an institution of FIFA (the governing body of association football, futsal and beach soccer).”
“This is a major achievement for football in Fiji and around the region and above all major achievement for our country that first Fijian ever sitting at this high ranked position of FIFA Council member.”
“He will continue to be Fiji FA president and member of FIFA council comprising of 38 members
“FIFA council is the most powerful decision making body, “Yusuf added.
Patel will relinquish his audit and compliance position with FIFA.
Meanwhile Vanuatu Football Federation President Lambert Maltock was elected as the president of OFC for next four years.
