USA- based Trina Davis has been ruled out of the Vodafone national women’s team for the Tri-nations series in Vanuatu next month.
Coach Marika Rodu confirmed that the star striker was not part of the team to Vanuatu.
“Davis is currently recovering from her surgery and we respect that,”Rodu said.
Rodu said the team would definitely miss her services.
“We will definitely miss her services but we have no choice but to go with local players.”
The side is currently in camp to prepare for their matches against Singapore and Vanuatu which will be hosted by Vanuatu next week.
Davis has been a great addition to the Fiji squad scoring nine goals in her eight appearance during the OFC Nation Cup Qualifiers in Fiji and OFC Nations Cup in New Caledonia last year.
Speaking to Fiji FA media from USA Davis said she was unfortunate not be with the team for the tour.
“I tore my ACL in September when I returned from OFC Nations Cup and I also tore my meniscus 2 years ago and it was tore before I went to play that’s why I had so much pain. So when I came home I had surgery for my ACL and meniscus in January, “said Davis
“It’s a 10-12 month recovery so I can’t play football till November or December.
Davis said she was recovering well and miss playing football.
“I’m still recovering, I can’t even run yet. I lost a lot of muscle so I’ve been gaining that back in the gym and going to physical therapy every week. I want to play football so bad, I went from playing football every day to nothing. It’s hard mentally and physically to get through this. I miss playing soccer and running but I was in a lot of pain after my games that it will all be worth it when I play again”
“I wish my team the best of luck, I wish I could be there with them all. I miss everyone there and when I’m all healed up I can’t wait to play with you all again,” Davis added.
Meanwhile the team will also miss the services of goalkeeper Adi Ateca Tuwai who has joined the Fiji Police Force.
