The Fiji Football Association has joined hands with the Fiji Rugby Union to support the bid to bring a World Rugby Sevens Series tournament to Fiji next year.
This was announced during a press conference at the Fiji Football Headquarters in Vatuwaqa yesterday.
President Rajesh Patel said Fiji FA was delighted to support FRU in its bid and would assist them every way.
“The FRU officers will be at 19 different football venues this weekend to register more fans on their website, “Patel said.
“We definitely open our arms to Fiji Rugby Union to have their officers to make sure they get their Fiji 7s bid table and everything and we ask all our players and fans to sign the petition for the 7s bid.”
FRU Chief Executive John O’Connor says, this is the first time for FRU and Fiji FA to come together as one.
“I think it’s the start of the new journey in terms of the two major supporting bodies working together in terms of such tournaments and assisting each other.”
FRU will submit its bid to World Rugby on Wednesday week.
