The 2017 Vodafone Fiji FACT will now be played next weekend at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.
Fiji Football Association acting president Yogeshwar Singh confirmed that president Rajesh Patel, in consultation with the Board of Control (B.O.C) has made the decision after an unforseen postponement to the tournament.
“The group matches of the Vodafone Fiji FACT would be played next Thursday, Saturday and Sunday,” Singh said. Singh said they would be using the same fixtures as per the initial schedule.
“The matches will be played according the fixtures released earlier but there might slight changes in the official opening time,” He said the Fiji FA had decided not to have any matches on next Friday as a big Super Rugby clash between Chiefs and Crusaders will be played at the ANZ Stadium.
“We had no choice but to postponed the tournament because of the Cyclone warning and we are giving break on Friday so the fans can also enjoy the Super Rugby match,” Singh said.
He said they had to postpone the tournament as natural disasters are something beyond their control. “The safety of the teams, players and the fans are our priority and we cannot control the weather, “Singh said.
He said they understand that the postponement had affected the teams but they had no choice. “Teams have prepared logistically for the tournament which was suppose start from today but we have spoken to them and told them their safety is first.
