Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) is in talks with Qatar Football Association to secure a friendly match for the U23 Olympians.
Head coach Christophe Gamel said he met with Qatar Football Association to discuss the possibilities of having friendly matches.
While the Qatar national team was already occupied until 2022, Gamel is trying his best to secure a friendly match for the Olympians to prepare for the qualifiers next year.
“I have spoken with Qatar to have a game against their U23 team in the future.
“Their main national team is already fully booked because they have planned everything until 2022.
“When I saw their plan, it was quite amazing.
“I have already been there to discuss with them. Now we have to push the process because I know it will not be easy as we have to work on a lot of logistics to finalise everything,” Gamel said.
There was still a lot of work to be done in regards to the Olympians, Gamel added.
“Since the qualifiers will be next year, we will need to work a lot on it because I see a lot of youths do not have quick reactions while playing.
“I have seen many U23 players already playing in the Vodafone Premier League so I have quite a good idea about the selection process.
“Some of them are already with me in the national team.”
Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said they would now wait for a decision from Qatar Football.
