The race for a place in the MSG Prime Minister’s Cup 2026 final is set to intensify tonight with two important men’s matches at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
Solomon Islands face defending champions Vanuatu at 4pm, before Papua New Guinea meet New Caledonia at 7pm. With only the top two sides advancing to the October 3 final, points are becoming increasingly valuable.
Solomon Islands currently lead the standings with four points from two matches. They opened their campaign with a thrilling 3–3 draw against the Bula Boys before beating New Caledonia 2–0, with Rafa Le’ai and Javin Wae finding the net.
Vanuatu sit on three points and will be looking to build on their 1–0 victory over Fiji on Monday. Bill Kaltfer Kaltack scored the decisive goal in the 70th minute after the defending champions had lost their opening encounter 2–1 to Papua New Guinea.
The 7pm encounter between Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia is equally important.
PNG have three points from their only match after defeating Vanuatu 2–1 and another victory tonight would strengthen their position in the race for the final.
New Caledonia, meanwhile, will be searching for their first points after beginning their campaign with a 2–0 defeat to Solomon Islands.
The Bula Boys have the night off and will be keeping a close eye on both results. Fiji currently have one point from two matches and return to action against Papua New Guinea at 7pm on Sunday, before facing New Caledonia in their final round-robin match next Wednesday.
