Fourteen-year-old Torika Boseiwaqa is following in the footsteps of her elder sister and Fiji Kulas representative Sereana Naweni after earning her first opportunity to represent the country.
The Year Nine student of Ba Sangam College has been selected in the Fiji Mini Kulas squad for the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship in the Solomon Islands.
The youngest of five siblings, Boseiwaqa has grown up watching Naweni progress through the national age-group system and establish herself with the senior Fiji Kulas.
Naweni also captained Fiji at the 2025 OFC U-19 Women’s Championship and scored for the senior Kulas against Tonga at the 2025 OFC Women’s Nations Cup.
Boseiwaqa said her elder sister had played an important role in her development and continued to encourage her football journey.
“My elder sister has supported me a lot and always encourages me to work hard,” Boseiwaqa said.
“I am very proud to follow in her footsteps and represent Fiji, just like she has done.
“She has inspired me, and I hope to make her and my family proud when I play for the Mini Kulas.”
Despite being only 14, Boseiwaqa now has an opportunity to gain valuable international experience against some of Oceania’s best young players.
Her selection is a proud moment for her family, with two sisters now having the honour of wearing the Fiji jersey at international level.
While Naweni has already made her mark with the Fiji Kulas, Boseiwaqa is beginning her own journey and hopes to build a pathway into the senior national team.
Fiji will face the Cook Islands on September 6, New Zealand on September 9 and host Solomon Islands on September 12.
The two finalists at the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship will qualify for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2027.
