Blues finish season in style

The Lautoka Football team finished the 2018 Vodafone Premier League in style with a convincing 4-1 win over Rewa in the final round of games last Sunday.
Blues finished on top of the table with 31 points registering 9 wins, 4 draws and 1 loss after two full round of 14 matches.
Ba became the second team from Fiji to qualify for the OFC Champions League once again this year after finishing second with 26 points, two points ahead of Nadi who finished third with 24 points.
Suva and Labasa finished with 19 points, however the Capital City Boys pushed Labasa to fifth place with a better goal difference.
Rewa finished on sixth spot with 13 points while Tavua survived in the premier division with 12 points sending Dreketi down to the senior division.
Lautoka president Abdul Kadar stands proud after winning the national league title and qualifying for the OFC Champions League back-to-back under his presidency.
“Well I am very proud together with all the executives and Players of Lautoka FC and if I am not wrong, we have created a piece by winning the first back to back league titles for Lautoka hence I would say it’s an historic occasion for Lautoka FC and its entire family,” Kadar said after the win.
Kadar said desire, determination and commitment were the only secret of success.
“Well to tell you the fact, there is no secret behind it as it all come through the desire, determination and commitment to do a job.
“At the beginning of the season we had set our objective to win the VPL and qualify for OCL and I am happy that the coaching team led by Kamal together with all the hardworking and dedicated players, have sacrificed all through out and at the end we are happy to hear again to be the best team in the country.”
“Firstly I would like to thank our Head Coach Kamal and his Assistant Anginesh for their hard work in training the team, secondly to all the players for their gallant effort all throughout the year, Thirdly to the wife’s and the families of this players for their continued support all through out.
“Also not forgetting the ladies fan club which mostly consists of the players’ wives for their support and assistance. To all the executives of Lautoka Football for their unity and to all our sponsors for having trust in the team and being there to always support us.
He said the focus now shifts to defending the Courts Inter-district Championship title.
“Since the season is now officially over, we will now shift our focus for the new season.
“We know we don’t have much time and the new season will not be any easy as we have to first defend our IDC title. We will now take a week’s break and then start our preparations for the upcoming IDC.”
