Football revival in the Old Capital

Fiji FA vice-president and chairman of the National League Board Yogeshwar Singh visited the old capital and had discussions with former players and officials.#“The people of Levuka are very much interested in bringing back the team, “said Singh.#“A huge support has been gathered from some former players and business people of Levuka in reviving football in their district. #“We have formed an interim committee and have advised them on the conditions of their re-entry.”#Former Levuka rep Tapa Powell has been appointed interim president and his assistants are Kevureli Salesi and Wakele Vidi.#Shiu Kumar has been appointed interim secretary while Ishrar Ali as interim special financial administrator. #Other members appointed are Manhar Vithal as assistant secretary, committee members are Andrew Bechu, Sam Steiner and Jim Bucknell. #Football was played in Levuka ever since the arrival of Europeans into the country where significant number of sports enthusiasts could congregate and socialise with a friendly game.#The first Fijian Inter-District Tournament was played at Nasau Park, Levuka, during the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of Cession in 1924.#Levuka was one of the founding members of the Fiji Indian Football Association in Suva in 1938.
