U-20 Football team to Travel Sydney

Assistant coach Sunil Kumar said the team will be playing three build-up matches against clubs in Sydney.#‘We will be playing Sydney FC U-20 side, Western Sydney FC and Newcastle FC U-20 side,” said Kumar.#The matches are expected to provide the players with exposure to high level opponents ahead of the OFC U-20 qualifiers in Vanuatu.#“Playing against the professional players in Sydney will give an added element of exposure and experience to our boys.”#The Ba school teacher said the preparations have been going well.#“The players are working really hard during training sessions, trying to improve themselves physically, mentally and technically, “said Kumar.#He said the morale in the camp is really high, with the boys aware that there are high expectations of them.#“The boys are ready to take the challenge and they know what is expected from them, “Kumar added.#Fiji is drawn with Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia in Pool A while Tahiti, New Zealand, Samoa and Solomon Islands are in Pool B.#Kumar said they know they are in tough pool but will consider each match as it comes.#“All the teams will be tough and we are going to take each game at a time.#He said they will be naming a 20 member squad from the Regional Academy side later this week.#“We had a year programme for the Regional Academy players and we will be selecting our best 20 players for the championship.#The team departs this Sunday for Australia and will stay there for ten days before heading to Vanuatu on 31 August.#Fiji plays its first match against the hosts on 3 September at Port Villa Stadium in Vanuatu.
