Farina pleased with players’ attitude

The national side are preparing for the OFC Nations Cup in Papua New Guinea in May, while the national Under-23 side are preparing for the Rio Olympics in August. #National coach Frank Farina said he understands most of these players have been affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston but thinks plans would carry on as normal. #“I was pleased with the session with the boys,” he said.#“It’s the first one for the next two weeks for a lot of the boys with Cyclone Winston and all that has happened. They haven’t played a lot of football and they haven’t trained but I was really pleased, their touches were good and they look reasonably fit but they still need a lot more training.”#Farina said they have extended the squad to prepare both teams together for the respective competitions.#“We don’t have much time as we are just few months away from the Pacific Nations Cup and the Olympic Games.#Farina said he is looking at 70 percent of the players from the U23s to feature in the national side.#“We have some good footballers in the U23s and for sure some of these players will be in the national team.#“At the same time we are focusing on the next Pacific Nations Cup as most of these players are young and will feature for the national team,” said Farina.#The team are also focusing on next month’s Barzil tour. #Meanwhile, strikers Samuela Drudru and Iosefo Verevou and midfielder Munit Krishna have joined camp while Ba’s Alvin Singh, Abbu Zahid have yet to arrive.#
