Blues target FACT

Their hard work was rewarded with a 4-1 victory over Rewa in the Fiji Sun GP Batteries National Football League last Sunday at ANZ Stadium in Suva.#Blues coach Ravinesh Kumar was pleased with the performance of his team and has indicated that more needed to be done if they are to claim glory next month.#“The match against Rewa was the bench mark for the Fiji FACT and we have more things to work on to and we will do much better then the match against Rewa in the Fiji FACT,” School teacher Kumar said. #Lautoka last won the Fiji Football Association Cup Tournament (Fiji FACT) in 2002. #Shalendra Prasad, the association president has been there administrating the blues for some years and believes that this is the year that his side will bring back the glory to the Sugar City. #“We are very desperate to win the Vodafone Fiji FACT and the road to the final would be very hard as we will be playing 90 minutes matches day in and day out which can be a huge factor for any team. All the teams are preparing to win and so is Lautoka,” he said. #“We are also going for the win and the preparation needs to be well. The participating teams have ample time to prepare and there shouldn’t be any excuse for not preparing well,” he added. #Lautoka defeated Nasinu in the 2002 Fiji FACT which was staged in Rewa and later had to be moved to Lautoka due to adverse weather condition #“We have last won in 2002 and since then we have been qualifying for the semifinals but we could not go one step closer of winning the title as there might have been some up and down in the team which has prevented us from winning the title. #But this year we have a good coach guiding us and definitely he is planning well to end the winless streak this year,” the Lautoka businessman said.#The current Lautoka players look promising as they walloped Rewa last weekend. #“The players and the coach had worked hard for the match against Rewa and they came out victors and the communication amongst the players has been a game plan by the coach Ravinesh (Kumar),” Prasad said.#The side has been boosted with the return of the former Ba and Suva midfielder Shameel Rao who strongly featured for the side against Rewa.#“Shameel Rao has reunited with the Blues after sometime and we are very fortunate to have him in our squad and his inclusion will have a big impact with Alvin Avinesh in the midfield. So we are looking forward for his services to the team,” he said.#On the other hand latest inclusion and Fiji under 20 left back Pranil Naidu has been ruled out of the Fiji FACT after sustaining an injury.#“Doctors have ruled Naidu out of football action for the six weeks which means he would not be able to take part in the Fiji FACT which is the major blow for us but we have other players who would be playing for us,” he said.#Prasad has assured the Blues faithful that the day of celebration is not very far away.#“I urge the fans to keep supporting the team and the wait has been a long for the loyal fans and this year the side is on the right track and the best players have been assembled by the association to end the wait.” Prasad said.#Lautoka will have a stiff mountain to climb when the tournament starts next month at ANZ Stadium in Suva when the side faces Navua in the tournament opener then plays Rewa on the second day followed by Nadi at the Prince Charles Park in Nadi. # Fiji FA Media #
