Fiji Football Association senior vice president Yogeshwar Singh acknowledged the support from parents while opening the Mom & Pop League for children U10 at Sararswati Manoca Primary School Grounds in Nausori on Saturday.
“First of all I am so happy to see the support from the parents who are here with their children today(Saturday) for this program and I must thank you all for taking out time for your kids and supporting football grow in this country,” said Singh.
Singh said they wanted parents to help in the development of football in Fiji.
“We want you to come and be associated with us and get involved with the development of football in the country, “said Singh.
Singh said Fiji was doing its part in developing football from grassroots level.
“We can only do it right when we get the support from the parents, if there is no support from the parents then this program will not last, “Singh said.
“It is a ten-week program and we want to build and develop future stars of Fiji football.
Singh said they were privilege to see the program been held in Rewa.
“The development officers are doing their job and they are trying to go to schools and get the parents and people together to come and train and develop these very young children so that when they come to upper level they will know what football is all about, they will know the rules of the game,”
He said they also wanted to see Fiji play in a FIFA World Cup.
“We also want to see us play in the World Cup, we want to see football in Fiji grows to greater heights but may be our foresight was not right but now we are doing it right and we want to grow from the grassroots and this can be only possible with the support of the parents.
If you parents don’t help us football will not grow,”
Singh said they would like to see the numbers increase from this week.
“We have more than 30 children here today (Saturday) and we like to see the number grows from next week and I urge parents to come out with your children and give them opportunity to become a footballer.
Singh said also to parents in other districts to take their child to your nearest ground where the progam is been held.
“I urge parents to take their children to their nearest ground and help football grow in Fiji.
