LAUTOKA Football Association (LFA) officials and players have all the reasons to smile after successfully retaining the Courts Inter District Championship title for another year.
The Blues outfit defeated hosts Suva 1-0 at the ANZ Stadium through Samuela Nabenia’s 51st minute header after a welltimed cross from tournament’s best player Benjamin Totori.
LFA president Abdul Kadar commended the entire Blues family for a gallant performance.
“It’s a very proud moment for my team as we were able to achieve our second objective and successfully defend our IDC title.
“We have now become the first team in Fiji to successfully win the new IDC trophy back to back.
“I am extremely happy and I would like to thank my entire executive team, the coaching panel, the players and their families and to all the fans of the mighty Blues team for all their help and support all throughout,” he said.
Kadar said there would not be any big celebrations as they had a very busy schedule.
“As for the celebrations, the boys have been given time off to enjoy out themselves and we are not planning to have anything big at the moment since we have CVC and Pacific Cup coming.
“We will be having a private function with the players, their families and our sponsors and we are working with Lautoka City Council on it.”
He says the focus now shifts to the upcoming Pillay Garments Champion vs Champion series and the Pacific Cup.
“In doing this we will keep your focus on our major event which is the Oceania Football Confederation League and just to let everyone know that we will be bidding to host the group stage of OFC League in Lautoka so that the fans are able to enjoy the best football being played in the region.”
