Utility Samuela Kautoga showed his worth for the Delta Tigers when he scored the winner as Rewa hoisted the prestigious Vodafone Fiji FACT title after six years and first on home soil.
Kautoga scored with a powerful header after connecting well with a Madhwan Goundar free kick in the 32nd minute of the match which caught Nadi defense stunned.
The Vodafone Fiji national defender was also awarded with the Player of the Tournament award.
Kautoga dedicated the win to his family, fans and the Rewa team for having faith in him.
“It is after six years that I have won a tournament with a district team and this is so special to me.
“I want to dedicate the win to my family and fans of the Rewa team,”Kautoga said.
He played a leading role in defence preventing Nadi striker Napolioni Qasevakatini from scoring.
“I knew I would score when I had that opportunity because I had faith in God,” Kautoga said.
The 30-year-old Togalevu villager from Ba last won a major tournament with Labasa in 2011.
“I want to prove my signing worth for Rewa and I’m so happy to help Rewa win,”Kautoga said.
“I’m looking forward to guide Rewa to more victories.”
Rewa coach Marika Rodu praised Kautoga for his excellent performance.
“Kautoga is a man of the moment for us and he is a very good player. His experience helped us to win,”Rodu said.
“We are proud of winning the first Fiji Football Association-sanctioned tournament of the year.
“We aim to get more trophies in our cabinet and this is just the start.
“We’ve won the FACT and the focus shifts to the Vodafone Premier League, INKK Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament and the Courts Inter-District Championship,”Rodu said.
Rewa received $15,000 while Nadi took $4000 as runners-up.
