Farina: WE will give our best in PNG

“We have been preparing well for the tournament but there has been some hiccups with some of the players were carrying injury while some are sick,” he said.
“But in general it has been good, we can’t complain as the weather is nice and warm and obviously in PNG will be really warm so at this stage I am really happy with the preparation.
The former Socceroo said the team look good but unfortunately they could not have much game time together.
“I would have loved them playing more build-up matches before the Nations Cup.”
Farina said he is happy with the blend of senior and Under 23 players in the team.
“For me it has never been about age, if I think they are good enough and good enough to be in the team irrespective of how old they are.”
Farina said the Olympians have the advantage from the Spain and Brazil tour.
“The U23 players have gained lots of experience and exposure playing in Spain and Brazil which will be an advantage. Also some of the senior players have already played in previous tournaments.
“So I am happy with the squad as they look good and well balanced and are ready to face other Melanesian countries.”
Farina said they want to qualify for the next stage of the World Cup.
“Obviously we want to qualify for the next stage of the World Cup, I know everyone will say we win the tournament and go to the Confederation Cup but I think first things first and put it into perspective.
He said Wellington Phoenix striker Roy Krishna has gelled well in training and he is looking good.
“Roy has come back well doing well and is looking good.
Farina said Roy still has long way to go in his football career.
“He is still not even at his peak in terms of football as he is still 27 and has a long way to go and he is professional.
He said Roy will lead the side during the tournament.
Fiji plays their first match against New Zealand on Saturday at 6pm (FT).
