National women’s team prepare for Australian tour

The team will be leaving on June 1 and will be playing five friendly matches during their 2-week stay in Sydney.
Team manager Susan Wise said the team are currently in camp at the Fiji FA headquarters in Vatuwaqa before the 22-member squad is selected after a series of trials.
“We had a 45-member squad after selection was done during the women’s IDC and monthly camps were done to select the best for the games,” she said.
“It was really difficult in selecting the best 22 as we had some skillful players and the coaching panel used the selection criteria to select the best.
“The Australian tour will be a great learning experience for the girls.
“We will be playing some professional clubs during our stay and this will let us know where to improve on before the Pacific Games in July.
“This is for the first time our national team are having a female coach Charlene Lockington who has replaced Usenio Logavou after he migrated to America.
The team departs on June 1 and returns on June 10.
