Farina eyed to lead Fiji U-20

Farina met with Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) president Rajesh Patel last weekend and was also present at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori during the semifinal stage of the 2014 Vodafone Fiji FACT. #Patel during a press conference in Nausori said that Fiji FA is able to accommodate a professional coach through the assistance from Oceania Football Confederation. #The Vodafone sponsored Fiji U-20 side booked a FIFA U-20 world cup spot last month after winning the 2014 OFC U-20 Championship. #“With the help of OFC, they have given us assistance for a coach to take us to the FIFA U-20 World Cup next year. Frank Farina is the candidate we have chosen and he was here to talk to Fiji FA,” Patel said. #“Current coach Ravinesh Kumar knows about it too and he wanted somebody to really guide him through to the World Cup next year.” #Farina is a former Australian football player and recently coached A-League club Sydney FC. His playing career spanned around Australia, Belgium, France, Italy and England, and he was also a major player for the Australian National Team in the late 1980s and 1990s, as well as managing the national team in the early 2000s.#Recently he also coached the Papua New Guinea senior and age group sides. The result ended Fiji’s road to 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign. #A outcome is expected to be announced soon. #The Fiji FA technical department also met with the Fiji FA officials to submit their national team programme. #“We have a very busy schedule next season as we have the OFC U17 playoffs in January, U-20 World Cup in May-June, Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea and season will end with the Olympic playoffs in Tonga. The technical department has also presented their budgets and programme,” Patel said. #The Vodafone Fiji U-20 side is expected to head to United States later this year for a preparation tour. # Fiji FA MEDIA #
