Vodafone Fiji Under-20 departs for Australia on November 2 to play few matches before leaving to New Zealand for the OFC President’s Cup which will be played from November 17-23 at the Trust Arena. #Fiji has been seeded in Group B alongside Amicale FC of Vanuatu and Busaiteen club from Bahrain. #In charge of spearheading Fiji’s campaign, head coach Kumar will be assisted by former socceroos coach and player Frank Farina.#“The President’s Cup is a dress rehearsal for the World Cup next year. We will be playing four games in Australia and then travel to New Zealand for the president’s cup and we will do the same come the world cup next year,” he said. #When asked about the President’s Cup, Kumar says not the result but the performance will be of concern. #“Results at the President’s Cup will not matter but team and player performance will. Our ultimate goal is the performance at the World Cup and a tournament like the President’s Cup will assist us gauge ourselves as continue our preparation path.”#Kumar says playing against Busaiteen club from Bahrain will be a challenge for his young side which won the OFC U-20 playoffs earlier this year to become the first Fijian national side to qualify for an FIFA World Cup event. #“It will be exciting to play a professional outfit as we will be meeting similar types of teams at the World Cup next year.
