$180 k for Under 17 League

Fiji FA Technical Director Ravinesh Kumar said this competition would be used as a mean for districts to develop their players and possibly include them in the main district team.#“This league will be district-based, that means currently we have U19 league only, so the U17 league is another step ahead in regards to development,” Kumar said.#“Having this Under-17 League will enhance the development of the sport in the districts and the country as a whole. This is a two-year programme and which will include 16 teams participating who were part of our Centre of Excellence programme last year.#Kumar said they would be playing two rounds of games and at the end the winner and runner-up from each division will play final within the division.#“This is to reduce travelling cost and provide more games for the districts and players, “he said.#“This league will also help us find more talents which were missed out of before and hopefully this competition can bring those talented football players back.”#Kumar said each district will be given equipment worth of $6500 there for about $100,000 worth equipment will be given to the sixteen districts which will be for two years.#“Apart from equipment the districts will also receive approximately $81,-000 cash for training and competition logistic for a year.#“These will include players travelling allowance, coaches’ allowance and medical which will be part of their preparation for the games and they will also receive traveling allowance from district to district and other competition logistics like referee payments, meals for the players, venue hire, ball boys and St Johns.#Meanwhile Vodafone Fiji also partnered with Fiji FA to support the national under 17 league.#Speaking during the handing over of $50,000 sponsorship, Vodafone Fiji Chief Marketing Officer Rajnesh Prasad said Vodafone Fiji has been partnering with Fiji Football Association to support the development of Football in the country for the past 7 years.#“The true reflection of our passion and commitment for the sport can be seen in our bid to firm-up the foundation of football through support to the grass root level of football in the country, “he said. #“We are proud to be the name behind our football teams. Through our financial boost we assist in facilitating the training and development programs for our teams.#“We have witnessed the fruition of our commitment to football with the astounding performance by our U20 heroes at the FIFA World Cup and the historical qualification by our U23 stars to book a ticket to the upcoming RIO Olympics which will forever remain fresh in the chronicles of Fiji Soccer.#Prasad said we are confident that through our financial boost and support we will help mold the young bloods into stars of tomorrow and on behalf of Vodafone, I acknowledge the efforts of Fiji Football Association for organizing the Vodafone U17 Youth League and thank all the district teams for part-taking in this year’s competition.#Fiji FA senior vice president and National League Board chairman Yogeshwar Singh added that Fiji Football Association is fully committed in development of football in the country.#“We are very much committed in development of football and we are doing grassroots developments in all districts.#Singh added that Fiji FA has established Development Centers and Center of Excellence in most of the districts and there are more to open soon.
