Long wait Over

Suva beat Ba 1-0 in an epic final to please their fans which had waited almost two decades for their side to claim a major championship.
School teacher Nathan Shivam’s third minute goal proved to be the match winner as Suva held on for a famous victory.
Champion Suva coach Gurjit Singh said his side worked very hard and were deserving victors.
“Suva badly needed a victory and the boys worked hard to win after 17 years. Heading into the final we knew Ba was a good side. The key for us was to attack and midfield backs to defend well as Ba was always dangerous,” Singh said.
He believes this victory could set the platform for many other glories in the season.
“This season is not over yet. We are currently leading in the National Football League and two other tournaments which we need to work hard for.”
Ba president Rishi Kumar says the remaining tournaments would be their target.
“Suva was no doubt the better side on the day. There cannot be any excuses for the loss and we will focus on the upcoming events.”
Suva was awarded a prizemoney of $15,000. Suva rep Samuela Vula was named the player of the tournament while Joseph Mishra was the top goal scorer.
Earlier in the day Suva beat Labasa 2-o during the second semifinal. Suva were awarded two penalties.
Ba worked overtime to sneak past Lautoka 1-0 via a Simeli Naresia goal.
