9-men Fiji hold Vanuatu to a nil-all draw

The Vodafone Fiji national men’s team drew 0-0 against host Vanuatu in the Tri-Nations FIFA International Friendlies at Korman Stadium in Vanuatu last night.
The Christophe Gamel-coached side showed courageous performance in front of a jam packed Vanuatu crowd despite going down to 9-men.
Striker Samuela Drudru got his marching orders in the 25th minute before Kishan Sami getting his second booking early in the second half.
Goalkeeper Benaminio Mateiniqara played his hearts out in match with some superb saves which denied the host to score while the Bula Boys showed the fighting spirit till the final whistle.
Coach Gamel was happy with the result and congratulated his boys for a grand game.
“I am very happy, the boys played with their heart, and they played with lot of discipline and self-control,” Gamel said
“We lost two players but the boys continued to play with the shape and game plan we had,” Gamel said.
Gamel described his team like the movie Spartans.
“Today (Monday) for me these Fijians are like the movie Spartans, they protected the goal like they protect their own house and I give my big respect to them for this,” said Gamel.
The team returns from Port Vila tomorrow. Players will get three days of home leave before resuming camp on Sunday, June 16th.

Meanwhile the Vodafone national women’s team ended the Vanuatu tour on a high not with wins against Singapore and Vanuatu national women’s side.

Cema Nasau scored Fiji’s lone goal yesterday against the host Vanuatu at Korman Stadium.
