Tailevu Naitasiri Honours Players

The Tailevu/Naitasiri Football Association hosted an awards night to honor it’s under 17 players for winning the Vodafone Southern Zone National under 17 League.

The awards night was held at Vunimono Community Hall in Vunimono, Nausori last Saturday.

Coach Elvis Goundar said it was a good way to honor the players because they did wonders for the district.

“I am happy that the association did something like this to acknowledge the players hard work and dedication, “he said.

Tailevu Naitasiri under 17 created history when they won the inaugural Southern Zone Vodafone National under 17 League defeating Rewa 2-1 in the second and final leg at Fiji Football Academy Ground in Vatuwaqa last year.

The Baby Tigers needed to score three clear goals to win after they went down 2-0 in the first leg under the home and away rules.

The Vunimono High School teacher thanked his players for the hard work and determination they showed during the competition.

“I salute my boys for the sacrifice they have done to achieve the victory today.”Goundar said.

Goundar said the boys sacrificed their school holidays to give back something to the fans of Tailevu Naitasiri.

“I must thank the parents of the players for allowing their kids to play for Tailevu Naitasiri.

He thanked Fiji Football Association for fully funding and assisting in the Vodafone National under 17 League.

“I must thank Fiji FA for the initiative in organising the league for Under 17 boys which shows the development is taking its shape.

“We could see some of the potential players from this team could join our Under 19 and also senior team next season,”Goundar said.

Goundar said the development work in Tailevu Naitasiri was the priority for the officials.

“Our under 17 Girls teams is also doing good in the Vodafone under 17 Girls National League as we can see a bright future for us,”Goundar said.

The Vodafone under 17 National League is fully funded by Fiji Football Association where the districts receive equipment and all the cost from Fiji FA with players allowance as well.
