The Southern Football Referees Association held its Annual Awards Night a fortnight ago to honor its referees for their handwork and commitment.
Rewa Football referee Veer Singh was awarded with the referee of the year award.
Singh who started as a whistle blower last year was happy to be honored as the best referee in the Southern Division.
“I am really happy and proud to receive the award, “said Singh.
Singh dedicated his award to his late dad Ami Chand Singh who passed away in 2010.
“I dedicate my award to my late father because he always wanted me to be the best in refereeing.”
Singh said he started his refereeing carrier as assistant referee during the Rewa Local League competitions but is happy that he was given chance to officiate in the Fiji Football competitions.
“I would like to thank Fiji FA Referees Director Rakesh Varman for giving me the opportunity to be in the middle of the game, “said Singh.
“There have been a lot of development after referee’s development officer Rakesh Varman joined and he had been conducting basic and elite refereeing courses.”
Singh said the award has boosted his morale and would continue in doing his best in refereeing and would like see more awards in years to come.
“I want to be one of the best referee in future and officiate in the OFC and FIFA tournaments,” added Singh.

Referees’ Development Officer Award: Find of the Year award- Navneet Verman (Nasinu), Volunteer of the Year- Bimlesh Prasad (Nasinu), Cadet of the Year- Anushil Chand (Nasinu), Special Award- Deepak Mudaliar (Rewa)
Fiji FA Referees President’s awards: Finau Vulivuli, Vinay Prasad, Bimlesh Prasad, Rakesh Verman, Haji Mohammed Aiyub, Torika Delai, Kamlesh Verman.
Assessors awards: Mohammed Aiyub (Rewa), Shalen Kumar (Navua), Rakesh Verman (RDO)
