President’s Message

Greetings to all

First of all very happy new year to all our valued readers, fans, players and district officials.

This year once again Fiji Football has to offer a lot to fans as we kick start of football season.

The Vodafone Premier League is expected to kick off next week as we know the teams have started their preparations. Only difficulties we facing at the moment are the availability of the grounds in most districts but we know fans will bear with us and support their teams.

This year the Fiji FA Board had made a lot of changes to further develop the sport in the country.

We are taking a new direction this year to further develop football in the country as you all know my administration is committed in the development of football in the country.

Firstly we have allowed districts to field three foreign players in the 2017/18 domestic football league season.

This year we are not allowing it but only for 2017/18 since the Fiji Football season starts with the IDC.

We will have three foreign players but the players should be here for the entire season and if a player leaves there will be no replacement for the entire season.

Secondly the Fiji FA Board has abrogated the zonal league format.

We are going to have a Viti Levu League for teams in Viti Levu and one for teams in Vanua Levu.

For the premier league it will be eight teams and even the youths (Under-16 and U18) and the senior division league will also be in Viti Levu and Vanua Levu format. There will be no zonal system, it will be different.

The new format for senior division will see all teams playing home and away basis in the Vodafone Senior League.

Vodafone Premier League

The 2017 Vodafone Premier League will start next weekend but this will depend on the availability of the ground. We are just waiting for the confirmation of ground availability. We have informed each association on how their teams should prepare for the season. We are going very hard in the administration side of all the member associations and they have been to have their own accounting system and monitor their red and yellow cards rather than waiting for Fiji FA to tell them and get an unnecessary protest. We do not want to have protests this year and we are having a clean league but we intend to finish by the end of August and it is a two round competition.”

Only eight best senior teams will play in the Courts Inter District Championship in the 2017/2018 season which will be held in October at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

We are approaching new format this year to see more competitive football amongst the senior teams.

We would like to see the best teams in the IDC. The Fiji FA Board and the Fiji FA Council have approved the changes and have been accepted by the districts. The Courts IDC will have eight senior divisions playing- three from Vanua Levu and five from Viti Levu.

This means five teams will drop out so they need to play well in the league and this is something we have highlighted and we are expecting to have a healthy competition. We are also advising senior division teams that they need to play well because only eight teams will play in the IDC.

Fiji FA Calendar

We will be having Vodafone Fiji FACT in May at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori while the first round of the INKK Mobile Battle of the Giants will be played at Subrail Park in Labasa in June. The Courts Inter District Championship will played in October at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
