Fiji Football Association is saddened to learn of the sudden passing away of former Fiji FA and Labasa Football referee Rudra Maharaj.
Fiji FA chief executive officer President Rajesh Patel said Maharaj will be missed by the football family in Fiji and abroad.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family who will have to go through this difficult phase,” Yusuf said.
“We have lost a great man today. One who had football in his heart. He immensely contributed towards the development of football in Fiji and leaves behind a legacy which many of us would only dream of fulfilling.”
“Maharaj has left a long lasting legacy .He was a true son of Fiji Soccer and was an inspirational to many in Fiji and abroad.”
“On behalf Fiji FA president Mr Rajesh Patel, its Board members and football family I wish to extend our deepest condolences to his family,” he said.
Yusuf added that Maharaj was dubbed as a no-nonsense referee and had commandeered respect of all players and administrators in his era.
“The history of Fiji Football will always remember him and his endless efforts to promote Football in Fiji.”
He was laid to rest to on Monday at his home town in Labasa.
