The Fiji Football Association is targeting the establishment of 20 district development centres as part of its proposed Technical Strategic Plan for 2027 to 2032.
Technical director David Baltase outlined the plan during the Fiji FA Districts and Clubs Technical Workshop at the Fiji FA Academy in Suva.
The proposed strategy aims to establish a clear development pathway from grassroots football through to elite academies, senior competitions and national teams.
Under the plan, Fiji FA is targeting more than 5,000 children participating in grassroots football annually across all 20 districts by 2032.
Each district would have a development centre catering for players aged 10 to 14, with three training sessions each week.
The strategy also targets more than 300 licensed coaches, with women making up at least 30 per cent.
Another major objective is to achieve 50 per cent participation by girls at grassroots level.
The long-term plan also identifies Fiji’s ambition to progress towards the 2034 FIFA World Cup for men and strengthen the women’s national team’s position in Oceania.
Baltase’s presentation emphasised that districts and clubs would be responsible for establishing grassroots programmes and supporting young players through the development pathway.
The full strategic plan is scheduled to be discussed with districts and clubs during the start-of-season meeting in January 2027.
