The 2017 Pillay Garments Champion vs Champion Series has been a major success says Fiji Football Association chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf.
“It was great to see the huge crowd gathered at Churchill Park to witness the two leg series, “Yusuf said.
Yusuf thanked Pillay Garments and its managing director Narendra Pillay for consecutive eighteen years of sponsorship.
“I would like to thank Pillay Garments and its managing director Narendra Pillay for continuous support for last eighteen years in the Champion vs Champion series,” Yusuf said.
He said without the sponsors Fiji FA would not be able to host such tournaments.
‘Without sponsors it is difficult for any association to host such tournament and I salute Pillay Garments, ”Yusuf said.
The Chief Executive Officer congratulated Lautoka for winning the title for the second time.
“I would like to congratulate Lautoka FC and its president Abdul Kadar for winning the title this year.”
“Ba have won the title for 18 times and Lautoka have won twice and that shows the competition level is growing amongst the districts, “
He also acknowledged the hardwork put in by district officials, referees, ball boys, medics, police, security and staff of Fiji FA.
“I would also like to thank all the media for the extensive coverage in making this tournament a success.”
Lautoka walked away with $5000 prizemoney while Ba received $2500 after the Blues won 1-0 in the first leg and drew 0-0 in the second leg to win the series for second time since its inception in 1992.
