The Gurjit Singh coached side needed a win in the fixture to confirm their status although they have one more match to play against
Nadi next weekend while Lautoka which was also in contention needed a win as well.
Both teams started the campaign on high note but could not score as they went into breather 0-0.
The second spell started with more fireworks from both sides and in the 52nd minute veteran Peni Finau found the net for Lautoka after receiving a well timing cross from Ratu Josevata Dugucagi heading the ball past diving Suva goalkeeper Uliasi Tamanisau.
Suva coach Gurjit Singh made two tactical changes in substituting Leono Damudamu with Waisake Navunigasau and Rusiate Matarerega replacing Poasa Bainnivalu in the midfield.
With the inclusion of the duo the Pita Rabo captained side changed their style of play with more attacking and Bainivalu equalised just in minute of his introduction on the field.
Hardworking midfielder Nickel Chand made a cross from the left flank to Bainivalu who smacked the ball past Lautoka goalkeeper Levi Tawake into the net in the 78th minute.
Five minutes later Chand with another cross from the left flank to striker Maciu Dundamu who kicked the ball into the goal taking Suva into the lead.
The goal boosted the morale of the Suva players and in the 87th minute nippy Chand sneaked through the Lautoka defense beating Tawake to put the final on Lautoka’s coffin box.
Suva coach Gurjit Singh said, “This was an important win for us as I told the boys we need it rather than wait for the last match against Nadi.
“Hats off to the boys as they played their heart out despite 1-0 down.
“I told them we can do it and they came up back strongly to beat them, “he said.
Lautoka coach Lambert Sarju was disappointed with the loss.
“We started well, but we slackened down in the last 20 minutes and gave the game away and Suva utilised our mistakes.
“It is not the end for us but now our focus will move on to Innk Mobile Battle of the Giants.
Meanwhile Nadi defeated Ba 3-1 in the second match at Prince Charles Park in Nadi and Rewa thrashed Nadroga 4-0 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
