Barrier broken: Yogi

FIFA referee Vulivuli, one of the best women’s referees in the world became the first female last Sunday to officiate in the final of a major local football tournament.

She controlled the final between Ba and Lautoka which was played at Govind Park.
Vulivuli was excited following the announcement which was made after the semi-finals last Saturday night during a dinner function organised by the Ba referees association.
It was double celebrations for Vulivuli as she also celebrated her birthday last Sunday.
Fiji Football Association referees chairman Yogeshwar Singh says Vulivuli deserved the appointment.
“Vulivuli is one of our top FIFA referees and she deserved to get an appointment in the final. She did a marvellous job in the final. I think this should be an inspiration to other women referees that sports has no barriers. It does see race or gender,” Singh said.
A major highlight in her career included the appointment at the last FIFA Women’s World Cup.
