Works to start soon on North Academy

Fiji FA chief executive officer Bob Kumar said Fiji FA is in the process of purchasing eight acres of land in Naqai where the Northern soccer academy will be built.
“Last year we identified a land before we applied to FIFA,” he said.
“FIFA has approved our request but in between that land we were looking at how to develop it for some other purposes. We are fortunate to identify another land in Labasa, which is just two kilometres away from town.”
“We have made an application to the iTaukei Land Trust Board and the mataqali has consented to the sale of land as we are now progressing.”
Kumar said they are hopeful the survey of the land is done quickly and the formalities would be taken care of by the iTLTB and we will proceed from there.
“The sooner the formalities are done we will get the title and works will commence. This is good news for the people of Vanua Levu as they now have top soccer facilities.”
Kumar said the Northern Soccer Academy would have a playing field, accommodation blocks, futsal court, offices and meeting rooms.
He said they expect construction works to start by the end of the year.
FIFA is providing a grant of US$500,000 to the Fiji FA for this project.
