Presidents Corner

Greetings to all
O-League
Firstly I would like to congratulate the Ba side for their hard fought 1-0 victory over AS Mont Dore during their O-League clash last Saturday in New Caledonia. The odds were definitely stacked against our Ba side as the recent flooding and bad weather affected their preparation.
Having said that I’m really disappointed with the fact that four Ba players were not allowed to board the plane back from New Caledonia as they were heavily under the influence of alcohol.
This has been a major discipline problem with some of our players.
Playing away from home these players are representing the country and are our ambassadors. This sort of disciplinary actions paints a bad reflection on other players as well as Fiji Football Association. My humble request is for district officials to be strict and see this sort of actions does not take place.

OneWorld Flight Centre Fiji Football Association Awards
The stage is set for the “OneWorld Flight Centre Fiji Football Association Awards” which will be held this Saturday at the Central Cuisine Restaurant in Suva.
The efforts and contribution of the stars of the 2011 season will be rewarded on this night. I would like the football fans and the general public to show their appreciation to these nominees who have contributed immensely.
Football needs people with a positive approach and the nominees have set a good example of what needs to be done in order to progress this sport.
I would like to thank sponsors OneWorld Flight Centre once again for their assistance.

Under 23- Olympic Games playoffs
The Olympics games playoffs are just around the corner. As I stated in my last week in this column that it was with deep regret that we had to pull out from the women’s competition. On the other hand the national men’s U23 side has been preparing well and gearing up for their playoffs, even though with the current weather conditions it has been difficult task.
The final team to travel to New Zealand will be announced sometime this week. I have had various discussions with team director Tarunesh Reddy, Carlos Buzzetti(National Coach) and I have been advised that the team is preparing well under the guidance of coach Imdad Ali.

League board meeting
It is good to see that the matters have been discussed and we are ready for the 2012 Fiji Sun GP Batteries National Football League which starts in the opening week of March.
The recent weather conditions had made things difficult but I’m glad everything is cleared up and we are looking forward to a successful event.
My best wishes goes to the participating districts, and also thank the sponsors for cooperating and understanding the situation.

Promotion Relegation
Nadroga retained their spot in the Super Premier division over the weekend and I must congratulate them. On this note I would also like to encourage Tailevu Naitasiri not to give up their dream just yet. A new season brings new hope and they must work hard to achieve their dreams and I want to be the first to congratulate them when they achieve their target. The officials of T/N needs to be mindful of what they say in Public, outbursts don’t help, but brings game in disrepute and then the consequences follow which no one likes it , but the spirit of sportsmanship have to be maintained at all times.

General
With these words I would like to sign off for this week…

Thank you.
