As the countdown begins for the 2026 BiC Fiji FACT tournament, excitement is once again building around Fiji FA’s first major tournament of the year.
This year’s tournament will be held at Subrail Park in Labasa, with the group stages scheduled for June 19, 20, and 21, and the semi-finals and final a week later at the same venue.
The official pool draws will take place this Saturday at the Fiji FA Headquarters in Vatuwaqa, where teams will discover their opponents ahead of what is expected to be another thrilling competition.
While supporters eagerly await the action on the field, young football administrators working behind the scenes are also beginning to get busy — and among them is 22-year-old Rewa FC official Amish Patel.
Young, ambitious, and deeply passionate about football, Patel has emerged as a rising leader in football administration.
But beyond football, Patel is also well known within the Nausori business community.
He is the managing director of Tara’s Supermarket, one of the well-known supermarkets in Nausori town. The family-owned business has become widely recognized in the area, while Patel himself has built a reputation as a hardworking young businessman with strong community values.
Remarkably, Patel’s football administration journey began at a very young age.
He joined Rewa FC at just 17 years old in 2020, initially becoming involved with the club’s youth structure in the Under-16 and Under-19 grades.
His dedication and commitment quickly impressed senior officials within the club.
In 2021, Patel was appointed Vice President for Youth Development and Team Director for the Rewa youth teams — a major responsibility for someone still in his teenage years.
Yet despite his youth, Patel embraced the challenge and continued growing within the club setup.
By 2023, he earned promotion into the senior team structure, serving as joint manager of the Rewa senior men’s team alongside experienced football administrator Lawrence Nath.
Since joining the senior setup, Patel has been involved in some of Rewa FC’s most successful recent campaigns.
The Delta Tigers finished runners-up in the 2023 Fiji FACT before suffering a disappointing pool-stage exit in 2024. Rewa again reached the final in 2025, finishing runners-up once more.
The 2026 tournament will mark Patel’s fourth Fiji FACT campaign with the club.
Another major milestone during his football journey has been Rewa FC’s qualification for three consecutive OFC Champions League tournaments — a significant achievement for the district at the regional level.
Despite his growing responsibilities, Patel has remained heavily involved in youth football development and currently continues serving as Rewa FC’s Vice President for Youth Development.
Those close to him describe him as someone who strongly believes in building pathways for young players and supporting grassroots football.
Over the years, Patel has quietly supported school football programs and various sporting activities around Nausori and nearby communities, helping young athletes receive opportunities and encouragement through sport.
His commitment to youth and grassroots sports development reflects his belief that football and sports play an important role in shaping discipline, teamwork and positive lifestyles among young people.
Today, Patel has become one of the youngest administrators actively involved at the highest level of Fiji football.
Despite his age, he has quickly earned respect within the football fraternity for his professionalism, maturity and willingness to learn.
However, Patel is quick to acknowledge that his growth within football administration would not have been possible without the guidance and support of senior figures within Rewa Football.
He gives special credit to Rewa Football Association president Nazeel Buksh for the trust and leadership shown toward young administrators within the club structure.
Patel also acknowledges the support and mentorship provided by fellow executives Sanjay Patel, Pita Cecil and Lawrence Nath, saying their experience and commitment to Rewa Football have helped shape his own understanding of football management and leadership.
Importantly, Patel says the unwavering support of his family continues to be one of the biggest driving forces behind his journey.
Balancing business responsibilities, football commitments and community work at a young age requires sacrifice and discipline, and Patel says his family’s encouragement has played a major role in helping him continue pursuing his passion.
His rise also reflects a changing era in Fiji football, where younger administrators are beginning to play larger roles in modernizing the game.
As football increasingly demands professionalism, branding, organization and stronger supporter engagement, Patel represents a new generation of football leaders balancing traditional football values with modern expectations.
And while the spotlight often shines on players and coaches, young leaders like Amish Patel are quietly helping shape the future of Fiji football from behind the scenes — through business, community service and a deep passion for the game.
