World Cup Qualifiers Squad Named

Digicel Fiji Bula Boys head coach Rob Sherman has added three new players to his extended squad in preparation for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Oceania Qualifiers.

The new additions include Sydney United FC midfielder Leroy Jennings, Wellington Olympic AFC defender Gabrieli Matanisiga, and Suva FC defender Kavaia Rawaqa.

These players have been named in the 27-member squad ahead of the qualifiers, which will begin with the first round on October 10 at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

Team manager Kartik Reddy says their inclusion aims to strengthen the squad as they aim for a strong campaign in the qualifiers.

“We aim to claim the 1.5 spots available to OFC for qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” said Reddy.

‘’The squad marches into camp on September 29 at the Fiji FA Academy in Ba and the final 23-member squad will be named on October 5.

Out from the squad are Remuera Takiata and Muni Shivam Naidu due to work commitments.

Reddy confirmed that the team captain Roy Krishna will join the team on October 5 after his club commitment.

Fiji is drawn in Group A for the qualifiers, alongside the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, and New Caledonia. The Bula Boys will kick off their campaign against the Solomon Islands on October 10 in Suva at 7 pm. They will then face Papua New Guinea on November 14 and New Caledonia on November 17, both matches will be held at the PNG Football Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Bula Boys have moved up to 150th in the latest FIFA World Rankings, rising three places from their previous position.
