Women’s winner

The Ba Women’s team lifted the Vodafone Women’s Inter-District Championship 2019 title beating Labasa 3-2 in a scintillating final at Churchill Park in Lautoka on Sunday.

Ba scored twice within the first 20 minutes through Unaisi Ralumu and Cema Nasau before Labasa struck back through Sofi Diyalowai and Vitalina Naikore to level the scores as both teams rested 2-2 at the breather.

An individual brilliance from Nasau broke the hearts of the mighty Labasa ladies when she blasted-in the winner in the 90th minute.

Winning coach Charlene Lockington ecstatic with the win.

He commended her girls for the tireless effort put in place during the preparation phase and also from the first day of the competition.

“It was a beautiful final,” she said.

“I take my hats off to Labasa for giving us a hard time but our girls, mostly the schools girls, worked hard for over a month and I think they deserve this win.

“I would like to thank all our sponsors. Mr Anish from New Zealand, Nicholas Bonne who also helped us financially, our Minister for Sports and Minister for Education.

“This win is also for the parents of Ba, fans and children who are still in the development stages.”

Ba walked away $4,000 richer with the silverware while Labasa settled for $1,500 as runner up.
