The Fiji FA Women’s Super League (WSL) was officially launched at the Sofitel Resort in Nadi on Saturday.
Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) president Rajesh Patel said it was indeed a historic occasion for Fiji FA to mark this launch of the Women’s Super League and being the first in the Oceania region.
He said WSL would be empowering women in all aspects of life.
Patel acknowledge the world governing body of football FIFA for the heads up.
“This would not have been possible without FIFA who has embarked on propelling women’s football together with the men.
“FIFA has decided that all income generated from the FIFA Women’s World Cup will be invested in women’s football all over the world.
“And that is one of the fruits you see here today.
“Fiji FA applied for a grant to FIFA for the Women’s Super League and it was proud to know that we are the first in the Oceania region,” he said.
Patel said it was a proud moment for Fiji as a nation.
He said Fiji FA will go beyond its ways to ensure the success of WSL.
“It is something great for the nation and great for the women football in Fiji because we are proud to be the nation leading in Oceania to make a move forward in women’s football.
“Fiji FA will not leave any stones unturned in ensuring the Women’s Super League is a success.
“We are there to ensure they are given equal opportunity and one of the major move our Board has decided is to give equal amount of allowance to the women players when they are in the national team camp, same as the men.”
