Whites to continue winning streak

The newly crowned Vodafone Premier League Champion Suva football side is expected to continue its winning streak at the Vodafone Fiji FACT 2020 at Subrail Park in Labasa.

The Vinz Work sponsored side has long been amongst the giants of football, but in recent time that Whites have been falling short of the major tournament titles until earlier this month when they ended their six year drought after winning VPL.

The side has played in five finals and won two times which was in 1995 and 2012 but the title has eluded the team for past eight years after featuring in the final last year and they lost to Nadi 1-2 in the final at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

Suva is currently amongst the well-performing and consistent teams during the VPL but the mission isn’t easy as they are pooled with defending champion Esy Kool Nadi, Lautoka and Active Construction Navua in Group B.

Coached by Maxwell Thaggard, the Whites have some of the best players in the country at his disposal. The likes of current VPL top goal scorer, Sairusi Nalaubu, former national rep Laisenia Raura, veteran goalkeeper Beniamino Mateinaqara, national striker Christopher Wasasala, Ravnesh Karan Singh and Remueru Takiate to name a few.

They are ably supported by the likes of the upcoming defender Joeli Ranitu, formidable centre back Manasa Levaci, young Simione Nabenu, crafty Iosefo Verevou and Shahil Dave.

The Whites will be boosted by the fact that they are the champions of Vodafone Premier League 2020.

Suva opens its campaign against Navua on Sunday, November 22 at 1 pm at ANZ Stadium before playing Nadi at Subrail Park in Labasa on Wednesday November 25 at 4pm. A Battle of the Cities and the final pool encounter will be against Lautoka at 4pm on Thursday, November 26.
