U19 Youth League set to start

The Digicel U19 Youth League kicks off is all set to kick off this weekend in southern and western zones.

Fiji FA competitions manager Amitesh Pal says the youth league involves 18 teams in three divisions.

“The southern zone consists of Rewa, Suva, Nasinu, Navua, Tailevu Naitasiri and Northland Tailevu while western zone is made up of Ba, Nadi, Lautoka Tavua, Nadroga and Rakiraki. The northern zone has Labasa, Savusavu, Dreketi, Seaqaqa, Nadogo and Bua.”

Pal said the U19 Youth competition would be played for ten weeks.

“The teams will play each other within their zones on a home and away basis for initial ten weeks of the competition, “said Pal

“The teams finishing on top in their respective zones will qualify for the final play-off which will be played on single round robin basis,”

Pal said the winner of the final play-off will be declared as the Digicel U19 Youth League champions.

“This is a fully funded competition by Fiji FA and the teams are also provided with equipment for preparation and participation in the competition,” said Pal

The first round this Saturday in the southern zone at 2pm defending champions Rewa will face Nasinu at Fiji FA Academy Ground in Vatuwaqa while at the same venue on Sunday at 10am Northland Tailevu will take on Tailevu Naitasiri while at 12noon Navua and Suva will take the field.

In the western zone on Saturday all matches will kick off at 12 midday at three different venues.

At Tuva Primary School grounds Nadroga will play Nadi, defending champions Ba and Lautoka will battle at Central College grounds in Lautoka. Rakiraki will host Tavua at Wairuku Primary School grounds in Rakiraki.

The northern zone competition is expected to kick off at a later date.
