“U19 YOUTH LEAGUE KICK OFF NEXT MONTH” SHANKAR

The Digicel Fiji U19 Youth League 2024 kicks off early next month in three zones.

Fiji FA Competitions Manager Shaniya Shankar says the competition will involve 18 teams from all over the country and divided into three zones.

“Suva, Rewa, Northland Tailevu, Navua, Tailevu Naitasiri and Nasinu will compete in the southern zone while Ba, Nadroga, Nadi, Lautoka, Tavua, and Rakiraki will play in the western zone.

“The northern zone will have Labasa, Seaqaqa, Savusavu, Bua, Dreketi and Nadogo.

“All teams will play in their zonal competition and the winners will qualify for the National Play-Off after ten weeks of competition,” said Shankar.

Shankar added that the final play-off between the three-zone winners will be played on a single round-robin basis.

“The winner of the final playoff will be crowned as the Digicel Fiji U19 Youth League 2024 champions,” Shankar confirmed.

“Unfortunately, we could not complete the competition last year due to unforeseen circumstances, but we will start a new competition this year and hope to finish in ten weeks.

Shankar said a circular has been sent to all districts to register their players.

“We have advised all the districts to register their players before Wednesday, February 26.

“The eligibility cutoff date for the players to participate in the competition is 01-01-2005 (maximum)and 31-12-2009 (minimum)

She confirmed that the competition would be fully funded by Fiji Football Association.

“Fiji FA will assist with training logistics and competition logistics,” said Shankar.

The first round of the 2024 Digicel National U19 Youth League will kick off on March 2.
