U19 to face neighbours

The Vodafone National Under 19 women’s side will start its campaign against Solomon Islands in the 2019 OFC U19 Women’s Championship in Cook Islands August 30.

Coach Sunil Kumar said they would take each game at a time.

“We are drawn in a very tough pool but we will take each game at a time but our focus now in on our first game against Solomon Islands, “said Kumar

He said they were working out on plan to counter their opponents.

“We are working on our plans which we will use against Solomon’s as we are not much aware of their strength,”

“We have been preparing well for this tournament despite facing some setbacks but I am happy that the team is together and we are doing our best for the competition,”

Kumar said the OFC U19 Women’s championship was not an easy competition.

“The girl’s competition at Oceania level is getting tougher every year and I will say this year it will not be an easy go as we cannot underestimate any team,”

“All the teams will come out firing as there is spot in the FIFA U20 World Cup, “said Kumar

The Ba school teacher said they would were in a very tough situation in the tournament.

“According to the draws we have to be the winner of our group to qualify for the semi-final as only team will go to the top four from our group.

The Vodafone national under19 side is drawn in Group A with Solomon Islands, Vanuatu  and host Cook Islands.

Fiji’s next match will be against Cook Islands on September 2and final pool play against Vanuatu two days later.

Fiji finished second best in last year’s competition hosted by New Zealand last year under the guidance and Saroj Kumar and assisted by Sunil Kumar.
